During this pandemic situation hackers are more active in intruding into peoples online activities. Mainly they are gathering the details of bank, Facebook, Instagram, SMS, false websites, fake emails, and calls.

To protect yourself from these attacks more measures are to be taken.

Awareness from government and other security personnel are given to stay secured.

Hackers are using this pandemic situation, since all the banking transactions, purchasing, sharing of official documents, online meetings, and maximum usage of internet by common peoples.

We may hear of the cyber-attack in the online meeting using the Zoom application. This occurred due to security lack, Joining the meeting anonymously.

Cyber-security is the way to protect computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, data storage from malicious attacks. It is also called as information technology security or electronic information security.

Trojans are the software that damages the data and sending the data to the attackers.

Spyware: Records the system activities and send it to the attackers.

Ransomware: Malicious software that locks the data and information in the system and threat of erasing the data if the ransom is not paid.

Adware: Spreading malware through advertising software.

Botnets: Cyber-criminals use to perform the activities online without the user's permission.

Phishing: Attacks through emails and unwanted links in SMS and gathering user information like credit card details.

Some Easy steps to protect yourself from Cyber-attacks

Use anti-virus software: This software removes the malicious content from your computer system.

Update your software and operating system: Update to latest security patches.

Use a strong password: Ensure your password is not guessed by anyone.

Don’t open any emails and messages from unknown senders: This may inject the malware into your system.

Avoid Clicking unwanted and unknown links when online: This may download malware software and run background.

Avoid using public and unsecured Wi-Fi: May lead to vulnerable attacks.

Play protect

Google Protect is an inbuilt system that continuously scans your phone for malicious app and misbehaving apps and settings.

Confirm your Google protect is working on your device

Open Play Store> Tap the three lines> Play Protect, make sure this setting is enabled.

 


Two-factor authentication

By the time you may know about two-factor authentication. This two-factor authentication is the two-stage verification of google account when signing in.

If you are signing for new, in your phone’s system setting, tap “Google Account” and then scroll to “Security tab”. Tap on “2-Step Verification”.

Another most recommended method is to use Google Authenticator app

Which generates the random codes for sign in.

Avoid enabling install from unknown sources. This can prevent the browsers or other apps to install malicious app in background without user permission.

App Permission

The app permission management is introduced in the android 6.0 and later release. An individual can control the permission granted to every app the user uses. But there are some restrictions in the app, the app may not work properly if the permission is not given.

Blindly accepting the app permission means you are accepting the terms and conditions of the app. The app can take permission which that app don’t require.

Managing your Android app permission

  • Open System Settings  from your apps
  • Look for App permission and tap it
  • You can look different app categories of app permission
  • Tap on different categories individually to manage app permission
  • Now, this app permission can reduce the data shared unnecessarily.

 

Screen pinning

One to the new feature introduced in the android lollipop and later.

Screen pinning makes the app to lock in the screen or process. To access other apps and settings which could require password, pattern, or fingerprint authentication.

This method can reduce the third person from using other apps and unnecessary settings.

To pin the screen enable screen pinning in System settings

System settings> Security and location> Screen Pinning

Hold the overview square button, tap the icon and select the pin option.


Lock-down mode

In the new android 9, the option is worth it. If it is enabled, it gives an easy way to lock the phone from all kinds of unlock access like bio-metrics. Only a pattern or PIN or password is a must to unlock.

To enable this features

Tap on system settings>Security and Locations> Lock screen preference and then activate show lock-down option.
